Barcelona is an excellent city to enjoy in summer, but it is not considered a Sun & Beach destination. It is true that Barcelona has several beaches along its coast like La Barceloneta, Somorrostro, La Mar Bella, but they are normally crowded and it will be difficult to find a spot
for your towel. So, where to go? Here you will find the answer.

Sitges
Not far from Barcelona city, just 25 kilometres away, is situated Sitges, a very special and idyllic fishermen village and also well-known like a gay destination. It has 17 sandy beaches to enjoy.
Sant Sebastià is the local’s choice, it is small and offers plenty of services. Bassa Rodona is considered the main gay beach located in the centre and it is easy to recognise due to the umbrellas and the coloured towels. And for families, the best option is Fragata Beach.
You will find more facilities as you get closer to down town. In summer it is very common to find some activities like water aerobics classes and children’s workshops along the seaside. Also, you will find xiringuitos bars and umbrella-rental kiosks.

Zona de Banys del Fòrum
Some people love sunbathing but hate the sand in their skin. Banys del Forum offers the best experience: sun, water and outdoor sports. Surrounded by rocks it is like a natural large-scale pool and you can also wakeboarding in a delimited area along 375 meters long and 30 meters wide. Banys del Forum is only open in Summer, starting June 1 st. They offer some facilities like toilets and changing rooms. During June and 2 last weeks of September only opens on weekends; in July and August and the first 2 weeks of September it opens daily in the mornings. It is recommended to swim with water shoes and be alert specially near the rocks.

Nova Icària and Bogatell
Nova Icària and Bogatell are neighbouring beaches but we grouped together as have the same vibe. Quieter that Barceloneta, you will not find any sangria seller shouting in the street. Just walk while keeping Frank Gehry’s famous golden fish sculpture on your left and you will start
to see some unoccupied stretches of sand. But the best, no one trying to massage you in public. It is plenty of facilities for sports (table tennis, basketball, soccer, volleyball, … and the xiringuitos bars are all year open, even in winter.
