We already talked in previous posts about how we like music and the huge number of events\u00a0and concerts existing in Catalonia. Some of them take place during the towns\u2019s festivals where\u00a0they are located. And most of the Catalonian towns celebrate their local festivals during\u00a0summertime, especially in August. Here some of the most interesting, but there are many\u00a0more.<\/p>\n
Sitges festival was declared Traditional Interest Festival in 1991, and Patrimonial interest\u00a0Festival in 2016. It\u2019s in honor of their Patron Saint, San Bartolom\u00e9. Several events and activities\u00a0take place during the hole month for kids and for adults. From puppets theatre to the Correfoc\u00a0(Parade of people disguised in demons with fire devices), you will find popular dinners,\u00a0concerts, dance events, and fireworks.<\/p>\n
Another Good example is Caldes de Malavella. In one week, you will be able to apply for a\u00a0tennis open, a chess open, quick painting and painting in concrete contests, catalan sausage\u00a0kitchen contest, a giants parade, \u201chavaneres\u201d concert (old fishermen songs), and a couple of\u00a0popular dinners, as well as all kind of activities for kids.<\/p>\n
Castellar de n\u2019Hug, at the Pirenees, organizes every year a shepherd dogs international\u00a0contest. This year it arrives to its 54 event. Born when a group of shepherds wanted to see\u00a0which one of their dogs was best, it takes place at the medieval castle\u2019s meadow, and this year\u00a0over 4000 persons are expected to enjoy it.<\/p>\n
Cardona is famous for its salt mines, that are a very interesting place to visit in organized tours\u00a0with guides. But is also famous for its Coromina festival, where the correfoc and fireworks are\u00a0a must to see, followed by a night of concerts and dance.<\/p>\n
During the whole summer from mid June to end of August, in several towns of the Pirenees\u00a0like Puigcerd\u00e0, Prullans, Bag\u00e0, T\u00edrvia, G\u00f2sol, Llavors\u00ed and many others, takes place the Cathars\u00a0festival, to remember the path those knights made in the region.
\nYou can enjoy different kind of concerts, ateliers of old music instruments, medieval markets\u00a0and fairs, guided visits to churches that are usually closed, archery contests, medieval kitchen,\u00a0theatre plays, and all kind of stuff related to the Catars knights and its epoque.<\/p>\n
And of course, Barcelona enjoys many festivals during summertime. Some of the quarters\u00a0were independent towns before the city overtook them, and so they continue to celebrate\u00a0their fairs every year. The most known are the festivals of Sants and Gr\u00e0cia. Hopefully, you don\u2019t need to choose. Gr\u00e0cia starts in August 15th, and Sants 3 or 4 days later.\u00a0Those festivals will be there for you for around two weeks. It will be plenty of concerts,\u00a0popular lunches and dinners, and the internationnally known Gr\u00e0cia street disguising contest.\u00a0Your only issue will be your eventual lack of sleep…<\/p>\n
But when in Catalonia during summertime, don\u2019t forget our local kitchen and our human\u00a0towers season. Take a look at the schedule to find the towns with this event every weekend,\u00a0and enjoy the best example of teamwork you will ever see. You can bet that the most difficult\u00a0thing will be finding a moment to get bored.<\/p>\n
